eToys/Baby Universe

After the recent Toys“R”Us acquisition of the eToys and Baby Universe brands, I led a 4-week, full relaunch of both sites. I was responsible for design, markup, and styling of the sites.

The sites are lighter and faster than their previous incarnations and feature enhanced product imagery and faceted navigation.

Burberry Checkout Redesign

I recently had the opportunity to revisit and redesign the checkout process for a number of global retailers. After a number of rounds of rapid prototyping, usability testing, and refinement, Burberry was one of the initial “betas” for the streamlined checkout process.

While statistically significant data continues to be collected, the results have generally been very well-received.

Toys“R”Us

After the recent redesign of the Toys“R”Us and Babies“R”Us sites, I played a major role in performance tuning the sites. The challenge was to retain the feature-rich user experience while optimizing download speeds and minimizing bandwidth usage. Primary recommendations included consolidation of images into sprites, utilization of the Akamai CDN, merging and minification of javascript includes, and compression of graphic assets utilized in Flash.

Web Accessibility

With the recent press surrounding the settlement of the Target litigation, I have been spending a great deal of time consulting and presenting to companies on general web accessibility best practices—primarily the Web Accessibility Initiative, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, and Section 508. I have had the opportunity to work with Anne Taylor of the National Federation of the Blind to stay abreast of recent advances in access technology and how these devices interact with web content.
